THE ALTON ESTATE

History of the area

The Alton Estate was an area of great history even before the construction of the estate, evolving over many years. The large residential blocks of the estate were built in two phases during the 1950s by the London County Council. They were situated within an existing 18th-century parkland landscape containing a number of grand historic buildings. These are equally important in creating the unique area we know today.
