Reflections on Home

Posted: 08/05/2019

Reflections on Home is an interactive sound installation that celebrates local voices, memories, well-known and forgotten places on the Alton Estate in Roehampton.

Over a 12-month period, artists in residence Sara Heywood and Jane Watt worked with more than 200 people who live, work or have a connection with the Alton Estate to gather a vibrant mix of audio-visual material. Conducting interviews and workshops with local schools, youth groups, OAP groups, Roehampton University, local businesses, workers and residents, the artists developed a temporary, interactive sound installation and mobile audio walking app that celebrate the area’s rich history, past and present-day experiences.

Reflections on Home was live during Wandsworth Arts Fringe 2019. Visitors could experience the temporary sound sculptures sited on Downshire Field (Bull Green), or join the artists on a special performance promenade around the Estate. You can download the Reflections on Home audio walking Sound App – downloadable for free onto a mobile phone or tablet (iOS and Android friendly), to uncover the sights, sounds and stories of the Alton Estate.

Reflections on Home was commissioned by Artscape, Redrow and Wandsworth Council, as part of the Alton Estate Regeneration.
